Day seven

My laser-correction experience

I felt good enough today to go to a Japanese restaurant (we celebrated the Mrs birthday) and have a hibachi chef throw zucchini at me in the hopes that I might catch it in my mouth. I'm sure he couldn't appreciate the stakes of missing and catching the cubed veggie in the eye. But I stared down danger, squared myself to my spatula'd foe, and caught it on the first try. Damn the eye chart - I want a real challenge!

I had a few chuckles today because on Monday, I jokingly asked Dr. M, who was going to be on vacation for two weeks, if I could remove the bandage contacts myself. Predictably, she said, "no way" and that I would have to go see the eye surgeon (Dr. T) 90 mins away to have them removed on Thursday. Well, I called Dr. T's office because I ran out of the antibiotic drops and needed him to call in a prescription. When I got a hold of him, he said, "Ya know...you could take them out yourself if you're comfortable with it and you won't need antibiotics when they're out." So I took them out.

The contacts came out fine, but I think some of the cherished epithelium I had been cultivating for a week came out with them. My vision got a little blurry again since removing the contacts. But there's been no discomfort and my vision is absolutely good enough to function. It fluctuates a little and my eyes keep switching which is the clearer one. Now I can look forward to the incremental progress day to day.
